Lonicera periclymenum is the latin name of the Honeysuckle that we all know and love. Serotina is a vigorous cultivar that has rich dark oval leaves on the tall twining stems. They have one of the best flowers in my opinion too, deep red/purple inside with a soft pale yellow outside in the classic Honeysuckle shape, just weird but beautiful. It’s certainly one that likes to grow and given the space will fill it in no time at all, we have one that is covering a trellis 5 meters from where it’s planted. It’s a hardy plant too that can take a hard pruning if you need to bring it back down to size. It might take a moment or two to get going again but will soon return to it’s former glory.
It does like to keep it’s feet in the cool while having it’s head in the sun which can be a difficult situation to find. The easiest way is to have it growing in the shade of other plants and it will climb it’s way to where it want’s to be.
