Ajuga reptans ‘Braunherz’

Darker than some of our others Ajuga reptans ‘Braunhertz’ is a low growing ground cover plant that’s well suited to shadier areas of the garden. As hardy as they come it’s one to stick in the ground and forget about, until spring when it sends up it’s magical spires of iridescent blue flowers.

Ajuga reptans ‘Braunherz’ is another one of our Ajugas that we recently acquired and have propagated for the first time this year, hence there are only the 9cm pots available. Unlike the the Ajuga reptans ‘Catlin’s Giant’, this one has considerably darker leaves, in horticultural terms these are usually considered black. It’s smaller too but still has the same beautiful blue flower spires in spring.

It has the same attributes as the others in that it’s nearly indestructible going down to below -20 C and being happy in nearly all conditions. It’s not suited to bright sun and is happier where there’s some shade making it a great one for a darker spot in the garden where you need something to cover a troublesome spot.
